What was your inspiration for the layout’s theme or design?

I wanted to showcase the beautiful papers and colours of Dani’s kit while still giving the page an overall feeling of comfort and merriment that I feel around the holidays.  I chose one of my favourite photos from my daughter’s first Christmastime.  Her bright eyes and the feeling of joy I have with her and at Christmastime inspired me to create a simple page with delicate details and a love-worn feeling. All the while I was making the page I kept thinking of that line in the song White Christmas…”I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, With every Christmas card I write, May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white.”  What a wonderful wish..that your days be merry and bright.  And this feeling is something both my daughter and the holidays bring to me.

What special techniques/actions/effects did you use if any in creating the layout?

I did some basic colour corrections on the photo, did some brightening, and fiddled with the blend modes, for a simple pop and clean look.  In order to create the stamped mat look I chose one of Dani’s papers and selected the beautiful pattern and used it to “stamp” the mat and then used it as the background paper layer to echo the effect.  I wanted to draw focus to the photo so I used a messy stitch to frame it.  I also recolored Jofia’s beautiful twines to better accentuate the colour palette of the page.
