Layout Recipe # 70 ~ Dalmatian
This week’s layout is one that I found while browsing the gallery at The Sweet Shoppe, it’s by Alinalitas aka Alina and is entitled Dalmatian! This layout caught my eye with it’s beautiful soft colours, the simple design, and those doggy biscuits! I just love the offset photo, definitely a technique I’m going to have to try out! And check out all of the amazing techniques that Alina used and shared with us! Please feel free to click on the image and leave this talented scrapper some love!
“The layout is also part of a project I have to lift Lauren Grier’s entire creative team. The layout I lifted is linked in the credits.”
Ingredients List:
- scraplifted from Brandy’s Just being me
- Lisaroseyposey cardboard solids by Lauren Grier
- Olivia by Lauren Grier
- Purrfectly Doggone Cute by Lauren Grier & Christy Lyle
What was your inspiration for the layout’s theme or design?
My inspiration: that is a picture of my 4 year old daughter all dressed up for her first ever ballet recital, in which she and her classmates played puppies.. She really enjoys dancing, and has an inclination for all things pink and girly, so I wanted to remember this special occasion with a very pink-and-girly page. I loved how the combination of doggie biscuits and pink flowers turned out.
What special techniques/actions/effects did you use if any in creating the layout?
I use GIMP to digi scrap. So I’m not very sure a bout actions and that, but there’s a few tricks I do that may be applicable to all image manipulation programs.
* Using shadows with lesser offset for flat elements (such as photos and frames) than the ones I use for “bumpier” ones. Also, distort a little shadows of strings to obtain a better depth. With GIMP I use the “iwrap” filter to do that. There’s a lot of tuts on how to make the most out of shadows out there.
* When working on backgrounds like this one, that have a rough texture, I like to give the swirls layer a bit of transparency so they look like painted on the cardboard. For the paw stamps I used a filter that GIMP has called “bump map”, that is really some embossing that uses a specific layer of the same image (in this case it was a copy of the background, desaturated and contrast highly increased) as guide. That way the flatness of the element on top disappears and rather follows the background’s creases (if that makes any sense).
Thank you so much to Alina for the great techniques information, I just love it when scrappers share with us their secrets to a wonderful layout!
