Road Trip Writings – The way back home
After visiting with all our family it was time to head back home. It was another 5 days of being in the car as we back tracked along the road we took the first time. This time we took our time getting to the hotels and stopped at any roadside attractions that caught our eye. Here are some of the things we stopped to see along the way home…
Mommy & Ally in White River MB, where the story of Winnie the Pooh all began. Apparently the military veterinarian from Winnipeg who purchased a bear whom he named Winnie after his hometown, was bought from a trapper in White River. The soldier later sent the bear to live in a zoo in England while he was stationed in France, and this is where the author A. A. Milne and his son saw the bear and was inspired to write the stories we now know and love about Winnie the Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood.
Ally outside the Rocksville Amethyst Gift Shoppe. The owners of the shoppe bought the surrounding land years ago and built the gift shoppe and surrounding buildings where they live. So even though they don’t open until 9 am, if they see you drive up they are likely to wave you in early as they did for us at 7:30 am the first time we visited the shoppe on our way to North Bay ON. And if you’re going to stop in (and I highly recommend that you do if you’re in the Thunder Bay ON area) ask to see the photograph postcard that the owner took herself of a beautiful piece of Amethyst rock. It’s gorgeous!
Photos taken at Egli’s sheep farm, they also had many animals on the farm that you could see and take photos of. It was a great break from sitting in the car.
Mommy & Ally in front of the Dog River Hotel! This is in the small town of Rouleau SK, where the t.v. show Corner Gas is filmed! Dog River is the fictional town that the show is set in. So of course we went, it was only a one hour detour on our last travel day back home!
Daddy & Ally in front of the Corner Gas gas station!
We also stopped at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum in Regina SK, my hubby had the camera that day so he took tons of photos, but none with any of us in them… lol.
So that’s it for the trip home, we had a blast on this road trip and are already getting ideas for where we’d like to go next year. We’re thinking Calgary Zoo one long weekend, and definitely the Badlands and Drumheller – the Dinosaur Capitol of Canada! Both are in Alberta so hubby can take 2 days off to extend a weekend into 4 days and we can make them mini trips!
So, Friday I’ll let you know about this trip’s “numbers”, and then to wrap it all up… on Saturday, an article with a few tips on making a road trip a success with a toddler. Now I’m no expert, and I only have one child – not two (or more) kids bugging each other (lol)… but these are things that I want to remember for the next trip we make, and I thought I’d share the info with you too.
Until then…. TTFN!

Road Trip Writings – The Family Visit
While in North Bay, Ontario we visited with a lot of our family and took tons of photos. Here are just a few of my fave photos of my DD with our different family members.
First Ally with my family, my sisters Gemmarose (Rosie) & Genevieve (Gen), my mom (Nana), and one of my brothers Hans. My other brother Beau is in Germany and is the only one we didn’t get to see. Then we have Ally with my dad (Grandpa Pruneau) and my grandparents (Great-Grandma & Great-Grandpa).
Next we have photos of Ally with my hubby’s family. His parents (Grandma & Grandpa), his brother Mario and his wife Lisa and 2 step sons Danny & Donny – Ally’s only cousins so far. And finally, Ally with the family dog who is definitely part of the family, Jessie.
That’s all for the family visit photos, of course I have more… but this is all I’m going to share for now… lol. I’m sure you’ll see more when I get them scrapped.
