Layout Recipe #34 ~ Happy 3rd Birthday Mia!
This week’s layout caught my eye at the DST gallery, it’s by jensurge (Jen Ulasiewicz) and is entitled Happy 3rd Birthday Mia! I love this layout! My DD’s 3rd birthday is on Monday so I thought it would be very fitting to showcase this layout today. I just love the whimsical swirls and colours, it’s pink, it’s girly… it’s everything I personally love! Please feel free to click on the image and leave this talented scrapper some praise!
Ingredients List:
- Cupcake by Betty Jo Martin from Birthday Sherbet Collab Kit from KB and Friends
- Background and Flowers from Peek A Boo Glitter by Tracy Ann Robinson
- Deeble Dabble Doodle Swirly Overlays by Lauren Grier
- Boho Flourish Frame by Michelle Coleman
- Doodle Frame (recolored) by Ida
- Sloppy Paint Alpha by Ashley Olson (no longer available?)
- Rainbow Brite Bozo Alpha by Gina Miller
- Save the Date by Darcy Baldwin
What was your inspiration for the layout’s theme or design?
My inspiration really just came from my daughter. I wanted the layout to be fun happy and colourful just like she is and above all, girly!
What special techniques/actions/effects did you use if any in creating the layout?
- The only really cool thing I did in creating this was how I made the colour effect on the doodle overlay. After I put the overlay on the page, I did a colour overlay on it and turned it purple. Then I duplicated the layer and did a colour overlay of blue on that one. I used a large soft edge eraser and erased some parts of the blue overlay. I duplicated it again and did a green colour overlay on that one and did the same thing, erased some of it with a soft edge eraser and repeated these steps again with yellow.
- Also, to make all of the shadows on the page softer and not stand out so much with that ugly grey, I made the drop shadows a deep pink shade to match the page.
- For the alphas, when I did the colour overlay on them, they didn’t really look painted anymore so I gave it a small bevelled edge and added a texture to it so it would look a little painted on.
- Oh and the swirly frame on the photo didn’t come in those colours. I took all the colours from the page to match the colours of the row of flowers.
